Excavation
Remove 50mm-100mm (2-4 inches) of the existing top layer of turf, depending on ground conditions.
Wooden Batons
Place treated 50mm x 25mm (2 x 1 inch) wooden batons around the perimeter of the installation area, including around any flower beds inside the fitting area. The artificial grass will be secured to these once the base is prepared.
Aggregates 1
Fill the area with Type 1 MOT crushed rock to a depth of about 50mm (approximately 2 inches) then compact using a vibration plate.
Weed Membrane
Cover the crushed rock with a weed membrane.
Aggregates 2
Use sharp sand (approximately 1 – 1.5 inch) to cover the weed membrane to bring the base height level with the batons, and compact again.
Fitting & Securing
Lay the artificial grass over the completed base, trim to shape around the perimeter, cut in flower beds or obstacles then secure to the batons. If you need to join the artificial grass make sure all the edges are secured first to stop any movement while the glue is setting. Use adhesive and joining tape specifically made for artificial grass seaming.
Concrete, Decking or Patio
If the installation is onto either patio, decking or concrete bases the grass can be secured around the edges.
